Thomas James Archer Jr. was born on March 10, 1952, to Thomas James Sr. and Alice Mae (Goedert) Archer at Storm Lake, Iowa. He grew up in the Varina, Iowa, area. He attended grade school at St. Columbkille Catholic School at Varina and High School at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School at Fonda, Iowa. Following high school he attended Universal Tech in Omaha, Nebraska for two years. On April 8, 1989, he was united in marriage to Kelley Rose Vierow at Las Vegas, Nevada. They had two sons, Cody James and Tanner Joseph. Tom was always involved with farming and mechanics pertaining to farming. He worked at Poca-Vista Farm Equipment in Albert City. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed outings with them. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Albert City. He was also a member of the Albert City Fire Department, where he gave his life in the line of duty fighting a fire in Albert City. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mark. Tom was the husband of Kelley; daddy of Cody and Tanner; brother of Mike, Pat, and Paul; brother-in-law of Darold and Brenda Brown, and Chuck and Vickie Erickson; son-in-law of Chris and Garnet Vierow; uncle of Kari Brown, Tracy Brown, Adrian Erickson, and Abbey Erickson.
