Leonard L. "Bud" Hollar, 81, of Iowa Falls, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at his home. He was born October 6, 1934 to Carl and Gladys (Scott) Hollar in Kansas City, MO. He grew up in Guthrie Center, Iowa and graduated from Guthrie Center Community High School. On March 11, 1952, Bud married Beverly Ann Patterson at the Methodist Parsonage in Dallas Center, Iowa. Bud worked for Iowa Electric as a Groundman, Lineman and Supervisor for 38 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for over 60 years serving in the towns of Cumberland (1956-57), Guthrie Center (1957-1965), Tama (1978-1984). and Iowa Falls (1984-2008). He was president of the Iowa Firefighters Association in 1972 and served as the Secretary from 1983-1994. Bud was an avid Hawkeye and Packers fan. He attended fifteen Iowa Bowl games starting with the 1982 Rose Bowl up to the 2010 Insight Bowl. He enjoyed traveling to Tama for discount gas and maybe a stop at the casino. Bud liked to golf with his family and also in the North Central I-Club outings. He always kept track of the academic and athletic achievements of all the kids. You could always hear him cheering at the games whether they were being played at the Guthrie Center gym or in Vets Auditorium. Bud was a member of the First Christian Church in Guthrie Center, Iowa, and the North Central I-Club. Bud is survived by his wife, Beverly Hollar of Iowa Falls, Iowa; his children, Ron Hollar of Des Moines, Iowa, Connie (Jim) Huber of West Branch, Iowa, Christy Hollar of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Colleen Buttler (Denny Reeves) of Guthrie Center, Iowa and Randy Hollar of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren: Jeremy Hollar, Chari (Walter) Ghrist, Christopher (Karina) Buttler, Kim Buttler, Stacy Buttler, Renee Alvarado and Linda Alvarado; great-grandchildren: Tanae Hollar, McKenzie Ghrist, Kennedy Young, Kylie Young, Kye Buttler and Cain Squires; brother in-law, Denny Patterson; sisters-in-law, Donna Patterson and Norma Patterson; six nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter in-law, Diane Alvarado.
