  Bio William Barnett was one of 11 men to serve more than one term as president. He may be William Burnett, who was born in New Jersey on October 9, 1859. He joined the Des Moines Fire Department on February 22, 1895 as assistant chief. He was elected chief in April 1896 and re-elected for consecutive two-year terms through May 1, 19O5, and in April 19O7 was brought under Civil Service. He was fatally burned while fighting a fire on March 26, 1937.
