  Bio Wright W. Hedges was born December 9, 1888 in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of James and Helen Wright Hedges and was a life-long resident of Cass County. He was married to Mable Collins December 29, 1915, and was association with his brother, Roy, in Hedges Brothers Dry Cleaning. On April 17, 1917, the city council reorganized the fire department and created the new Atlantic Fire Department. Wright became one of the original 3O members of the new department. In 1927 he was elected chief and held this position until he retired January 1, 1955. In the 27 years Chief Hedges lead the department, Atlantic captured 11 championship titles in contests at state conventions--five consecutive years (1933 to 1937) and then six more (1949 to 1954).
